Holiday Story Contest

Since the inspiration to write about the holidays usually comes during the holidays, holiday stories can be tough to submit and sell. Well here's a contest for a holiday story that is running right now.

***Note: this is primarily a review site so you'll have to review three stories on the site. This also looks like the kind of site I blogged about in my last post where your story would probably not be eligible for submission to journals and contests that require submissions to be unpublished.

Still, if you have a holiday story you have no idea where to submit, you may win a $100 Amazon gift card.

***See Clark's comment below. Apparently submitters have the option of keeping the post "private" so it can be reviewed and considered for the contest, but would not, for all intents and purposes, be considered published if you wanted to submit it elsewhere. I never cease to be amazed at the great ideas people come up with online.

Nannette,

Thanks for posting about our holiday contest! I wanted to offer a quick correction to the "note" section of your post. When a writer uploads their work to Review Fuse, they are given the option to keep the work private--actually this option is checked by default. If they leave this option checked, the submission is shown only to assigned reviewers of the work.

The same thing applies to our holiday contest, and while we'd love to publish the winning story on our site, we'll only do so with express permission of the author. Entrants are NOT required to give this permission to qualify to win.

That being said, I'd love your opinion on the validity of this system. If we only show a writer's work to assigned reviewers, will it maintain an "unpublished" status and be eligible for later publication? None of us here at Review Fuse are publishing experts yet, but we did read up on it quite a bit.

Thanks for the clarification. I'll add a "see comment below" to the post in case anyone misses it. That sounds like a good system, and, no, I don't think a piece up strictly for review would qualify as "previously published," at least not with any publication I've ever been associated with.

So, I apologize for any misunderstanding, and I'll get it cleared up.

No need to apologize. Thanks for adding the clarification--both to the post and to our idea.
